St. John鈥檚 Unveils New Logo and Online Store
St. John’s College is proud to announce the launch of our new visual identity. Consisting of a modern take on our classic seal and logo, updated color palette, and our first , the new identity balances the desire of a large majority of alumni to reclaim our visual heritage with the desire of mostly younger alumni for a cleaner, more contemporary style. Our heritage is restored with the restoration of the seal, orange and our full name; and we embrace a contemporary style with our more streamlined seal and our new Neutraface font, which is used in the college motto and campus location line of the logo. (Neutraface, it’s worth noting, is based on the architectural and design preferences of Richard Neutra, who designed the Annapolis campus’ Francis Scott Key Auditorium and Mellon Hall.)
“Alumni voices have been central to the process of creating this fresh visual identity,” says Alumni Director Chris Aamot (SF04). “We are grateful to the hundreds of alumni who were generous in offering creative ideas and constructive input as we engaged with the full college community in the development of this new identity. This input enables this iteration of our visual identity to reflect our community well: It is rooted in the beloved traditions of the New Program and gives prominence to the Great Books while giving a sense of our critical relevance to the world today. This identity expresses our affection for the college and our esteem for the transformative power of the New Program, and we hope that alumni everywhere will bear the new logo with pride.”
The launch of the new logo comes complete with the new , which offers a greater selection of St. John’s College clothing and accessories than ever before, including coffee mugs, wall decals, duffel bags, and plenty of sweatshirts, T-shirts, and more. We’re inviting our community to vote on what else they’d like to see in the store’s upcoming Heritage, Novelty, and Intramural/Athletics Collections using . (Bookstores on both the Annapolis and Santa Fe campuses will still have exclusive offerings, however, so be sure to stop by during your next visit.)
