Alumni Information about Reporting Sexual Misconduct

St. John’s College takes matters of sexual misconduct very seriously. Reports from alumni regarding sexual misconduct or harassment are encouraged and welcomed at any time, even if the incident or situation occurred a long time ago. Alums can report sexual misconduct or harassment involving other students, employees, or visitors to campus provided that the offending person was a member of the community at the time of the incident or there is a connection to the safety of the community. Although the college cannot act against people who are not current employees or current students, we can still take a report of the incident.  The information received may also be beneficial to the college as it continuously reviews and updates its policies, processes, and training/educational offerings, and considers how it can best support community safety and wellness. The college already regularly seeks and considers feedback from current community members, including through scheduled community surveys about its response to sexual misconduct.

Alumni who wish to make a report should contact the Title IX/Sexual Misconduct Coordinator on the campus where the incident occurred. Although requests that a matter not be investigated further will be considered carefully and taken seriously, incidents involving an employee of the college may require the college to open an investigation, regardless of the wishes of the reporting party. Alumni should carefully consider how they wish to proceed with the process before disclosing the name of the person(s) involved; this is especially important if the reporting person was not directly involved in the incident. The college is not able to act based solely on rumors or conjecture and, depending on the nature of the information disclosed and the roles of those involved, may contact the named parties to obtain additional information. The coordinators are available to discuss and explain the college’s policies and procedures, coordinate supportive measures, and provide education on relevant issues.

Alumni may also wish to speak with a confidential resource external to the college. A report to a confidential resource is not considered a report to the college and will not result in an investigation or any remedial or disciplinary action.

  • Anne Arundel County Sexual Assault Hotline at 410-222-7273
  • Solace Sexual Assault Services at 505-986-9111

Regardless of whether a matter results solely in a report or in an investigation, to protect the rights of the parties, these matters are confidential. Complainants should feel comfortable knowing that they can make a report to the college without information about their case being shared.

On either campus, anonymous reports may be made by calling the college’s Compliance Hotline administered by Lighthouse Services at 844-490-0002 (for services in Spanish call 800-216-1288).  Reports will be forwarded to a Title IX/Sexual Misconduct Coordinator on the appropriate campus. Please note the college’s ability to respond to or address incidents reported anonymously may be limited.

Alumni are encouraged to review the college’s current sexual misconduct policies.
