Annapolis may be a small city, but its central location means that you’re never far away from big-city life … and big-city opportunities. Nearby airports make it easy to get anywhere in the world fast, New York City is a three-hour bus ride away, and Washington, DC is 30 miles down the road, giving you easy access to exciting, impressive internships with national organizations (and the amazing variety of museums in the city). Maryland is smack-dab in the middle of the East Coast, making it easy to travel up into the Northeast or down south into Georgia and the Carolinas. Nearby train stations allow easy access, and with major international airports in Baltimore, DC, and Virginia, it’s easy to travel anywhere in the world.

There are plenty of cool places within easy driving distance of Annapolis, but even if you don’t have access to a car, it’s easy to get almost anywhere in the world. By plane: The is half an hour away, is 45 minutes from campus, and is a little over an hour away. By train: Both Baltimore’s Penn Station and DC’s Union Station are about 45 minutes from campus. The BWI Airport Amtrak station is even closer, offering quick and comfortable travel options.
New York City
The cultural capital of the world is just a bus ride away.
Depending on traffic, New York City is between 3–4 hours from Annapolis, making it easy to take a day trip or to spend a weekend enjoying the city that never sleeps (P.S. One of your classmates probably has friends or family in NYC, so try to find a way to stay for free!). Want to see the iconic sights? Hit Times Square, Broadway, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and the Empire State Building—or check out smaller galleries, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and cultural festivals for a more authentic NYC experience.
Washington, DC
Take advantage of easy access to the nation’s capital.
Located just about 30 miles from Annapolis, DC is home to some of the best cultural attractions in the country. Find a friend with a car or hop on the bus, because the are worth the trip—check out the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the National Gallery of Art, the National Portrait Gallery, and many more. Head to the or relax on the National Mall—or better yet, take advantage of the extensive network of St. John’s alumni living and working in the city and secure an internship at an exciting national organization.

Baltimore has been called one of the “coolest cities on the East Coast” by everyone from Smithsonian Magazine to Forbes. Forty-five minutes up the road from Annapolis, the harborfront city bustles with arts and culture offerings, including the , the , the amazing , the annual , and plenty of concert venues, theaters, and art galleries. Enjoy the Inner Harbor, the brick-lined streets of Fells Point, or the cool, artsy neighborhood of Station North on a great, easy day trip up I-97.
