Quarterly Budget and Expenditure Reporting under CARES Act—Institutional Reporting

Distribution of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students

In compliance with the CARES Act, St. John’s College asserts the following:

  1. The college has signed and returned to the Department of Education the CARES Act Certification and Agreement. The college will use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  2. The Annapolis campus has received $925,928 from the Department of Education for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. The Santa Fe campus has received $679,099 from the Department of Education for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  3. Update: As of May 11, 2022, the Annapolis campus has distributed all of its $925,928 of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students, and the Santa Fe campus has distributed $872,843.00 of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  4. The estimated total number of students on the Annapolis campus who are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 325 students. The estimated total number of students on the Santa Fe campus who are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 248 students.
  5. Update: As of May 11, 2022, 445 Annapolis campus students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under the CRRSAA and ARP(a)(1) and (a)(4) programs, and 496 Santa Fe students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under the CRRSAA and ARP(a)(1) and (a)(4) programs.
  6. In order to ensure equity among students, all of whom have struggled financially with the consequences of closing the St. John’s College campuses in March 2020 due to coronavirus, all students enrolled at the time of the campus closures who are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act were informed by May 25, 2020 that they will receive $500. Twelve students who are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act and who had already received $500 institutional emergency grants on or after March 27, 2020 and prior to May 25, 2020 will not receive an additional $500 grant; instead the college will be reimbursed those funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. All students enrolled at St. John’s College as of May 25, 2020 who are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act also were informed by May 25, 2020 that they may apply for additional Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students by completing an online form that will be reviewed by a committee of administrators. The committee will determine whether the student has incurred eligible expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus in excess of $500 and weigh the student’s need with the availability of funds.
  7. All students who are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act were instructed to expedite the distribution of the $500 grants by enrolling for direct deposit. Students were also instructed to complete an online form if they wish to be considered for additional funds.
