Friday, October 18

  • 2–5 p.m. – Check-In: Pick-up your printed schedule and nametags in the Mellon Hall Lobby.
  • 3–4:15 p.m. – Library Open House: Want to see where students spend much of their time? Tour the beautiful Greenfield Library and hear from library staff about the many resources available to your student. While you are there, be sure to check out the Rare Book Room and learn about these historical books! The library is also open on Saturday from 12–6 p.m. if you would like to explore on your own.
  • 3:30–5 p.m. — Edensword Bookstore and Coffee Shop Open House: Stop by the terrace level of Edensword Hall and visit our new Bookstore and Coffee Shop.
  • 7 p.m. — First-Year Chorus Concert, Mellon Hall FSK Auditorium: Parents are invited to hear selections from the First-Year Chorus.
  • 7:30 p.m. — Friday Night Lecture & Question Period, Mellon Hall FSK Auditorium: Presentation by Cynthia Keppel (A84), Associate Director for Physics, Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility

Saturday

  • 9–11:30 a.m. — Check-In: Pick up your printed schedule and name tags and sign up for this afternoon’s student-led Tutorials. Mellon Hall Lobby.
  • 9:30–10:30 a.m. — President’s Welcome: Join President Demleitner in the Mellon Hall FSK Auditorium for an update on the current state and future of St. John’s College. This session will be based upon topics suggested by parents.
  • 10:30–11:30 a.m. – Speak with Michael Cleary, General Manager of Bon Appetit, the college’s dining services, about dining hall offerings, how the meal plans work, festive dishes served around the holidays, etc. Mellon Hall Lobby.
  • 10:45 a.m.–12 p.m. — Career Development Student and Alumni Panel: join current students, recent alumni, and internship site supervisors in the Mellon Hall - FSK Auditorium and hear about how Johnnies can take advantage of summer internship and fellowship opportunities available to all students.
  • 12:45–1:15 p.m. – Reading the Ptolemy Stone: Learn from Michael Dink, Tutor and former Dean, how to measure the angle of the sun compared to the earth using a Ptolemy Stone. Some of Ptolemy’s work is examined at the beginning of the first semester in sophomore mathematics. Meet at the Ptolemy Stone - along the walkway parallel to the Mitchell Museum.
  • 1:30–3 p.m. — Student-led Tutorials: Experience a Tutorial, where a piece of music will be listened to and discussed. All tutorials will explore the same piece of music and will occur in classrooms in Mellon Hall. Families and friends will sign up to join a specific classroom during on-site check-in. Please join your classmates in the Tutorial room you selected.
  • 3–4:30 p.m. — Family & Friends Fall Festival: Enjoy light fare and beverages on the Upper Lawn and Mellon Patio. Play lawn games, meet other families and paint a pumpkin to take home with you.
  • 6–9 p.m. - “Sailing under the Stars”: The Hodson Boathouse staff and the St. John’s Sailing team would like to invite you down to the banks of College Creek. Students and family are all welcome for some stargazing as well as refreshments (s’mores!) back on shore. Lifejackets will be provided on a first come, first serve basis and we will rotate through the PFDs as folks come off the water. We plan to make use of almost all our vessels in the boathouse! Please feel free to reach out to Rachel Fleming, or John Wagner, our Boathouse Manager, with any questions.
  • 8–11 p.m. — Contra Dance: Please join our very own Ms. Jordan Kammeyer, the archon of Folk Life, in the Great Hall of McDowell where she will teach everyone the steps and call the dance. First-time dancers of all ages are very much encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

Sunday

  • 10–11:30 a.m. – (+ USNA option): “Join your period-attired guide for stories of historic Annapolis and a visit to the Maryland State House with the option to continue on to the U.S. Naval Academy.”
  • 11 a.m.–1:30 p.m. — Family & Friends Brunch: Join your student for Sunday Brunch in the neo-classical Edgar T. Higgins Dining Hall located on the entryway floor of Fielding-Rumore Hall. Seating is limited. Tickets cost $23 each and can be reserved through on-line registration.
  • 1 p.m.–2:30 p.m. — Student Club Showcase: Come learn about some of the student clubs on campus and join students in some typical outside-the-classroom activities.
  • 1:30 p.m.–2:45 p.m. — : “Distinguished as a National Historic Landmark, the Maryland State House is a treasure in the city of Annapolis. Join your period-attired guide on a 75-minute tour to explore one of the most historic and architecturally significant state houses in the nation.”
